Market Street Development has been stopped

Our public demonstration on May 14th has now been cancelled.

Due to significant changes to the leadership of the local HPBC, we have had multiple sources state that the Market Street Development outline planning application has been stopped.

We have been hearing a trend from local borough councillors that the plans will be stopped until a proper consultation can be conducted, engaging with local residents. The council have expressed an interest in retaining the existing parking and have a preference towards social housing, but at this stage it is unclear on the official position.

We are yet to have formal confirmation of this latest arrangement, but we will provide an update as soon as we can.

Kind regards,

Higher Buxton Action Group

  1. I have lived in Buxton for 30 years . The buildings were used as offices. To my knowledge they didn’t make big alterations inside. If a site like otter controls can be converted to apartments why can’t these buildings. The developer wont build in stone to match existing be very costly. Why bring in company from Lemington spar who don’t know Buxton. That was waste of money. Local company would do proper survey and design in interest if area . Site could be used for leisure . Any archaeological dig should be done for Roman effects before any type of building gets considered. Council leaders like Dia Larner will attempt to push any money making scheme through. As short if funds caused by Aysterity . Would of been more sensible building McCarthy and stones appserments there than water site . We have major parking issue that should be sorted first. Then where is fair people going to go . Tories couldn’t of cared less about what we say .At least labour council willing to do proper consultation .buildings should be repaired and made into apartments where possible . Extensions could be demolished as they are out of sorts with area. The appartments could be social housing . The rest of site could be sold to developer. They should be looking at others site and how buildings have been preserved. We have to appose this till we get a sensible solution . New survey should be carried out using a more local company with knowledge of area . They could also hold public consultation on any plans before submitting for planning permission. Member of town team and high peak access. Also member of team being set up to look at planning in Buxton .
