On Friday 25th November, High Peak Borough Council agreed to defer their application to the Development Control Committee (Planning) which was due to take place on 3rd December. Whilst it is too early to say what the implications of this are, it is a significant development. It gives us the opportunity to engage in a meaningful dialogue with the Council and to develop ideas which focus on economic, environmental and social development of the site. It gives us time to develop and refine creative ideas for the benefit of Higher Buxton. Thank you to everyone who has participated and contributed so far in this project and we look forward to the next chapter.
HIgher Buxton action group
We would like to thank everyone who has expressed an interest or contributed towards this project. The Higher Buxton Action Group is an open group of residents and local business owners who currently wish to see the area of land known as the Cattle Market car park and Corporation Yard (Off of Market Street, Buxton) developed into a facility which benefits local stakeholders, visitors and prospective home owners. We do not object to the building of new houses, we would simply like some community involvement in the plans.
The area is currently subject to a covert planning application which is being rushed through without the involvement of the local community. You can view the plans and comment on the application by visiting this link. This prime estate is currently being under-used by High Peak Borough Council, has various buildings and ample space to provide an amazing opportunity for the local community.
Our group is holding regular meetings and working towards a solution which involves local residents contributing their skills and ideas towards the regeneration and development of this valuable space. You can watch our video which quickly introduces the area with creative ideas on how the various buildings and assets could be used to benefit our local community.

Hello my name is Hayley Yates,
I live on clough street and oppose the new builds, I have sent my email to the council with my reasons why, including; loosing the parking spaces would be detrimental to the already struggling area for residents and local businesses. Also the new builds would not be inline with the traditional builds. Alongside this, having so many new builds and therefore turning the area in to an estate which I personally do not want to live on. The flats across from the cattle market were originally suppose to be for potential home owners and affordable housing, which they have been, but have also come with many issues, effecting the local community with police interventions needed. This worries me for mine and my daughters safety if this is what would happen even closer to our home. I am happy to talk more about my concerns and would like to attend the next meeting if possible.
Thank you
Thank you for your comment Hayley, I have added your details to our contact sheet and we will be sending out an E-mail within the next 7 days with an update for the group and information about the next meeting.
