Progress since last meeting:
- We have an article in Pure Magazine and are in the Buxton Advertiser
- Dave has developed a poster and this has been distributed to 19 local businesses
- We have been in touch with DCC Highways who are happy to work with us and the DCC Highways Development Control are saying they will not meet with us as they have to remain impartial
- Development Control Committee (Planning) guidance notes are up on our website.
- We have been invited to join the neighbourhood planning steering group
The big news is that the outline planning application was deferred from the Development Control Committee on the 3rd December and will not be taken forward until a meeting has been held with our group
Objectives for tonight
- Get clear on priorities up to the 14th January.
- Log skills and offers of support.
- Gather views
- Develop creative ideas.
Opportunities
- To keep focused as outline planning could go to the next meeting on the 14 th January.
- We have time to get creative and to identify what people want and need.
- The project could become part of the local Buxton Neighbourhood Plan. This is being led by
the Town Team and a Steering Group is currently being set up. The site fits well with the
neighbourhood plan and will be a good focus for the plan. Once in place the neighbourhood
plan carries equal weight as the local plan. - We have the chance to build a picture of what local businesses want.
- We can deal with the current parking issues on Market Street.
- We can broaden our involvement and build relationships locally.
- We can campaign to save the tree, save the houses and save the car parking spaces.
- We are now officially open for donations.
Building on the concerns section from the last meeting
The main additional concern was the loss of car parking spaces on Market Street as on the existing plans there is no parking along the frontage of the properties. This could result in the loss of an additional 8 spaces.

One that is colourful, cheerful, creative, interesting, complementing local context and needs.
Something new which is grown out of the ground.
Sustainable, zero environmental impact, an eco-development.
Innovative and bold.
Something that is mixed use.
Offers of assistance
We identified initial projects:
- A campaign to save our tree, save our Victorian houses, save our parking spaces
- Survey and data analysis. To consider the research already existing and add to this where useful. We are wondering what the impact of local developments is on health services and education. Key area of parking we wished to consider a traffic flow report commissioned by the Town Team and a DCC Highways report which we understand has been completed and not yet implemented. In addition, the High Street Regeneration report and potential funding. Reference was made to Trip Advisor and that may tourists emphasise the challenges of parking in the town. What is the demand for truly accessible housing? What is the housing need in the area?
- Publicity – continue to promote what we are doing and keep a presence in the public eye
- The meeting with HPBC – Kevin to go as business representative, Geraldine as resident representative. We are looking to meet with Dai Lanner, Head of Regeneration, Ben Hayward, Head of Planning, Ward Councillor, DCC Highways Department. Roddie will also be in attendance.
Date of next meeting to be scheduled after meeting with the Council.
